A/Prof Sophie Valkenburg

University of Melbourne, Australia

Associate Professor Sophie Valkenburg leads viral immunology laboratory based at the University of Melbourne, at the Doherty Institute of Infection and Immunity since 2022 NHMRC fellow. Her PhD in the Kedzierska group at the University of Melbourne determined at the pMHC interface CD8+ T cell escape of influenza viruses. Then as a NHMRC Overseas postdoctoral fellow from 2012 in the Poon laboratory, she assessed universal influenza vaccines and their immune correlates. In 2015, she lad an independent laboratory team at the Pasteur Research Pole of the University of Hong Kong. Her research focuses on longitudinal vaccine cohorts and animal models on influenza and COVID, for advanced immunology for T cell boosting and antibody effector functions for protective immune correlates to improve future vaccines and strategies.
