Prof Stephen Baker

Professor Stephen Baker is a Senior Principal Scientist III at A*STAR Infectious Diseases Labs, specialising in applied microbiology and antimicrobial resistance (AMR). With over 25 years of research experience, he has advanced global understanding of bacterial genomics, epidemiology, and vaccine development. Formerly Director of Research at the University of Cambridge and Executive Director at IAVI, he is also an Honorary Professor at Imperial College London, an Honorary Faculty Member at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, and an Adjunct Professor at the National University of Singapore. His research has been pivotal in addressing enteric diseases such as typhoid and shigellosis, uncovering mechanisms of AMR, and guiding vaccine and diagnostic innovations. Recently, his work identified the first monoclonal antibody targeting an AMR pathogen. With over 490 publications and an h-index of 97, Professor Baker continues to drive global health impact through translational microbiology and AMR research.
